Reverse-Engineered Shed Bracket - Mirrored Replacement for a Missing Part

Reverse-Engineered Shed Bracket - Mirrored Replacement for a Missing Part

Client: Private customer  |  Scope: 3D scan reverse engineering & mirrored reproduction

The Problem

This one came with a twist most reverse-engineering jobs don't: the customer only had one side of an awkwardly shaped bracket used on his shed. The matching piece for the opposite side was missing entirely, and there was no source to order a replacement from. So the part didn't just need to be reproduced — it needed to be reproduced as a mirror image, opposite-handed from the one he had in hand.

The Process

I scanned the existing bracket to capture its full geometry — every angle and offset on a part like this matters, since nothing about the shape is a simple symmetric form you could eyeball.

From there, the scan was cleaned up and merged into a usable mesh, then brought into CAD to rebuild it as a proper solid model rather than working from raw scan data directly.

With the model rebuilt, the final step was mirroring the geometry to produce the opposite-handed version — effectively generating the missing piece from the one that survived, rather than just duplicating what already existed.

The Result

The customer now has a matching pair — his original bracket plus a properly mirrored counterpart that fits the other side of the shed exactly the way the missing original would have.

Missing one half of a pair, or need an odd-shaped part reverse engineered and mirrored to fit? Get in touch and let's see if it's a good fit for scanning.
