NFC Business Cards & Keytags Explained

One of the less obvious things we build: physical products with an NFC chip built directly into them. A tap against a phone pulls up contact info, a website, or a social profile — no app, no typing a URL, no scanning a QR code. Here's what that actually looks like and how we integrate it into printed and manufactured parts.

What NFC Actually Does

NFC (near-field communication) is the same short-range wireless technology behind tap-to-pay. A small chip embedded in the object holds a tiny amount of data — usually a link. When a phone taps or gets close to it, the phone reads that link and opens it automatically. No app required on most modern phones; it just works the way tap-to-pay does.

Digital Business Cards

A single tap shares your contact info, website, or social profiles instantly — the card itself can be updated to point anywhere, so what it shares can change even after the card is made. No more running out of paper cards or handing someone information that's already outdated by the time they get to it.

NFC Keytags

The same chip, built into a keytag instead of a card. These work two ways at once: as an actual physical keychain, and as a shareable digital touchpoint. Tap it against a phone for the same result as the card — contact info, a link, or a triggered automation — but it lives on your keys instead of in a wallet.

How We Integrate the Chip

The part that makes these worth building custom instead of buying a generic pre-made tag: we recess the NFC chip directly into the printed part or product itself, rather than sticking a chip on the surface as an afterthought. The result reads as a single finished object — a card or keytag that happens to be smart, not a chip with a case built around it. UV printing handles the full-color design and branding on top, so the final piece is both functional and something you'd actually want to hand someone or carry on your keys.
